America in Decline? (4/18)

Europeans and Americans have for over three hundred years viewed their culture, history and religion as the prime movers in the civilization of the world. Western industrial, scientific, political and cultural revolutions have transformed the understanding of the world. India and China though once backward, have now come to the economic and technological table copying and repeating the Western model. Advances in communication and transport have made the world a smaller place. Internationalism is a major factor in trying to solve the worst effects of climate change and increasing world trade. That the present US administration, however, has now embraced the flag of nationalism to promote American "greatness" suggests a retrogressive view of history. China has established itself as an economic and military power and does not want to be intimidated. Russia once an American rival is using nationalism in a losing fight to reclaim a lost territory. India is waking up. The US like Britain is no longer dominant. The technological cat is out of the bag. Trump's antics with tariffs rather than showing strength are a manifestation of the economic and moral decline of the US.
